The AHA today released a new report showing that hospital and health system performance on key patient safety and quality measures was better in the first quarter of 2024 than it was right before the COVID-19 pandemic and that hospitals made these improvements while caring for more complex patients with more significant health care needs.

WASHINGTON (September 12, 2024) — The American Hospital Association (AHA) today released a new report finding that hospital and health system performance on key patient safety and quality measures was better in the first quarter of 2024 than it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, and that hospitals made these improvements while caring for patients with more significant health care needs.

Summary. All hospitals and health systems strive to deliver safe, high-quality care to every patient they serve. Our field has led the way in making bold changes to drive improvement in outcomes for decades, and we know that the dramatic improvements we have seen since the landmark 1999 Institute of Medicine report are a direct result of that leadership.

The American Hospital Association’s 2022-2024 Strategic Plan seeks to position the AHA to lead, represent and serve the field as its national advocate and provide guidance to our members and stakeholders who will tailor their paths to their own communities.
